The Nuraghe appears about 1.500 B.C. and is no doubt the most significant architecture of Sardinian prehistory and perhaps of all the Mediterranean area. They consist on two-storeyed broken-conical towers.
Linked with the early Sardinian cult of the waters, the holy wells are on the island about 30. Constituting the most archaic examples of the religious architecture in the Mediterranean area, they were built near watersprings.
The town of Tharros (in the peninsula of Sinis, not far from Oristano) has a Phoenician origin. The first settlement, in fact, date back to the 8th century B.C., then since the 6th century B.C. the site was utilized by the Punics as a sea-stronghold. Since 238 B.C. Tharros passed under the Roman rule.
Situated on the south-west coast of Sardinia, less than 40 kilometres far from Cagliari, they constitute one of the most fascinating archeological sites of the island.
